This article and many more say you are wrong. Of course water makes it fail but US diesel does too.

drain you water separator once a month and make sure your using top tier fuel. Everything will be fine. Everything has a failure rate and I can’t actually remember the last time I had a pump blow up that didn’t have a terrible fuel sample come out of the tank.

Thanks. I drain once per month. Unfortunately no top tier diesel around here. I use from high volume stations and run Optilube Summer

mine failed. Nothing in fuel. No evidence of water ever being in fuel. US diesel does not lubricate as well as European diesel. I was advised by the Ford Diesel Mechanic to run a lubricating additive.

Precisely while the manufacturers want to wring as much profit out of their engines when they build them, they also have woken up to the fact that regardless of the engine performance for the "1st off the lights idiots", the best long term sales advantage is reliability and dependability - getting from A to B all the time is far better than getting of the mark at A and breaking down before B. Besides some of the marketing claims made for these chips make cow manure smell like olive oil.
