ABS Gremlins
My baby is a 2000 Excursion Limited 4x4 V10. My 1st
, and I love her, flaws and all. I'm at 264,560 miles. Most of the truck's history is unknown to me. This platform in general is unknown to me, as I've been rocking Suburban 2500s for most of my life.It just recently started throwing a few codes. I've gotten a blinking O/D light, and occasionally the ABS light has come on (but not always stayed on, oddly).
I have a BlueDriver Scan Tool that I'm using. If I need to purchase something better to diagnose this, let me know! I don't mind investing in the right tools to get the job done. Here's two screenshots of a live readout on my BlueDriver, so you can see what I've got going on. When my vehicle stops, the OSS is going ape. However, when this happens, my speedo on the dash isn't doing anything. It reads 0 mph.
OSS malfunctioning around 1:27
OSS malfunctioning again around 4:08
The codes, as copied from the PDF generated by my scanner:
----Powertrain Control Module Codes Scan Report----
4 Powertrain Control Module Trouble Codes:
1. P1000 - On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) Systems Readiness Test Not Complete
2. P0503 - Vehicle Speed Sensor "A" Circuit Intermittent/Erratic/High
3. P0720 - Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit
4. P0722 - Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal
----Anti-Lock Brake Module Codes Scan Report----
3 Anti-Lock Brake Module Trouble Codes:
1. C1155 - Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Input Circuit Failure
2. C1233 - Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Input Signal Missing
3. C1158 - Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Coherency Fault
I've popped in a new OSS on top of the 4R100. I'll admit, that one was a shotgun move, but hey...
I just wanted my baby to run smooth. The P0720 & P0722 codes showed up first by themselves a couple weeks ago, so I didn't have much of a reason to suspect any other culprits. New sensor, can 'o soda, and a few bruised knuckles, and voila!. Ran code-free for a day or so, but then the O/D light went'a'blinkin.I changed my front brakes, and took that opportunity to change the Left Front sensor. Don't roast me, I already knew I was going to change the rotors/pads, so I was already gonna be right there and the part wasn't all that expensive. While I had the sensor out, I peeked at the tone wheel and slowly rotated the hub, looking for missing teeth, cracks, anything. It looked good, nothing suspect there.
It still threw the code after I did my break-in drive. I metered the sensor, 766Ω on the dot. I metered the old sensor, and it was approximately the same reading. While I was crawling around looking for my sanity, I crawled to the back and metered the rear diff sensor, 1840Ω. I haven't metered the front right one yet, since it hasn't make any ruckus thus far.
Then, earlier today it actually just stopped and died in my driveway. I'm done playing, I need this sucker fixed. My next point of attack is the wiring itself.
My first question is where in the world is the ABS module? I scoured the forum and found a couple of threads that supplied me with diagrams/pinouts, so I believe I know which wires correspond with which sensors, but nobody seemed to say where it was. I'm attaching one of the better-looking schematics I found, so perhaps one of you can verify that I'm working with good info. If the wiring is bad, am I expecting just an open circuit, measurable resistance, or what? What are the signs I'm looking for, good or bad? Is a multimeter sufficient to check the wiring? Is it sufficient to check the tone wheels, or do I need something specialized?
So, there. That's where I'm at. Please, give me any insight or advice you can. Again, I'm new to the platform, so you may have to hold my hand a little in regards to where to look, or how to get to a certain connector / part. I just don't know where stuff is in these trucks. I'm learning fast though (not by choice!)

Finally (and let's hope it doesn't arrive at this point), if I need a new module, where should I be shopping?

and then buy this....
Problem solved...good luck....and you're welcome.

Also, a couple more codes I've gotten, but I didn't mention because I didn't think they were relevant:
----Generic / Body Electronic Module Codes Scan Report----
3 Generic / Body Electronic Module Trouble Codes:
1. P1832 - Transmission Transfer Case (4WD) Solenoid circuit failure
2. P1876 - Transfer Case 2-Wheel Drive Solenoid Circuit Open Or Short To Ground
3. B1450 - Wiper select switch circuit failure
My 4WD is working fine, so I don't know why I'm getting that code. My T-case shifts without a problem. One thing I did notice while I was changing my brakes is that the vacuum hoses to my hubs are MIA. I don't mind manually locking my hubs in the meantime.

I haven't yet, but you can bet that I'll be pulling mine apart to see what's up. I wouldn't be surprised to find something wacky in there. I'm having other minor issues of electrical things not working like seat heaters and rear defroster. I just kinda chalked them up to a 1/4 million mile truck, but I'm anxious to see what this endeavor might uncover.
Thank you so much for the pointer!
Has anyone had their truck stall at higher speeds, could be very dangerous?
