I have had an intermittent ABS light for a while now. Since I have gotten the injector o-ring issues, and oil consumption problems nailed down, I am starting to check other things off the list. I have 2 codes:
C1229 Speed Wheel Sensor Rear Center Coherency Fault
C1230 Speed Wheel Sensor Rear Center Input Circuit Failure
What do I have to do/buy in order to fix this issue?
I have not, Roland. I wasn't sure where to go with it at all. I will definitely check it and go from there. Thank you very much.
I can send you a pdf of the diagnostic procedures for the VSS, if you need further info. These codes point to a faulty VSS or wiring issue to/from it. Another way to test the VSS is to connect a DVOM to the sensor terminals (kind of tricky to do ) with it set on the lowest AC volts setting. You should get a fluctuation in voltage as the tone ring teeth pass by the sensor while you spin the differential with the wheels off the ground. The VSS is cheap enough that you might just want to replace it, if hasn't been already.
I never have replaced it and I have owned the truck since 2007. I have also been having some issues with the tranny occasionally hunting around at light throttle it searches between 1800-2100rpm. Feels almost like the torque converter is locking and unlocking. Would the VSS being bad have anything to do with that?

It is possible that a faulty VSS signal could affect the TCC lock up. I'm not sure if the glitch in the sensor/wiring would be bad enough to notice a change in the speedometer at the time of the fault, but with those codes, it is pointing you in that direction.
any updates on this, i'm also getting a random ABS light. havent had a chance to pull codes, i just moved and cant find the friggin box with the Auto Engenuity stuff in it
