2003 Ex died on me this morning backing into my parking space at work. Died again pulling outta the spot.
It doesn't like to hold an idle for some reason.
I was able to get it home by shifting to Neutral at lights and goosing the throttle.
Codes include P0300 and P0316.
On my 2000, I had a similar problem and it ended up being a Crank Angle Sensor.
Wondering if the 2003 Has both a crank angle sensor and a Cam Angle sensor or just a Crank sensor only.
Welp, wasted my time replacing the Cam and Crank angle sensors...
Cleaned the Idle Air Control Valve.
Swapped the Mass Air Flow sensor off of my 2000.
Throttle Position Sensor reads good, 1.05v closed and 4.76v wide open. Smooth curve as I slowly move the throttle from closed to open and back again.
No es Bueno; Still stalls when just sitting there.
Now, my only codes are P0720 and P0722.
Those are transmission speed sensor codes, shouldn't cause the engine to stall.

I had the exact same problem and there is a thread on here about it. I was throwing the P0720 code a year or so ago.
Engine light on. I could be at a stop light. Sitting there idling fine and just die. It would instantly refire but i would sometimes have to put in neutral, throttle uup some and then drop into drive and take off. As i wouuld approach a stop light, i'd coast to a stop in neutral and then drop into drive and take off to keep from stalling.
Also, i couuld start it up in the driveway, no engine light, and within a minute, engine light on and died. Or sitting in driveway, put it in drive, hold the brake and it wouuld die.
took it to a well know ford performance place that specializes in all things ford. Replaced that sensor....replace a coil that was misfiring. Gave the truck back to me, 2 days later did it again. Back to shop...now i had another misfire....swapped another coil. Took it home, truck sat for a week, got it in drove it for a minute to town and it died..
Back to shop, codes were reading 2 more misfires, replaced more coils, gave it back to me, still not fixed. The owner actually kept it for a week and drove it back and forth to work....trying to give it time to replicate the problem i had every time they gave the truck back to me.
Got the truck back, died again. Told that shop to kick rocks....Took it to my local guy, put it on his computer, had a misfire. By this time there 4 or 5 coils had been replaced. By this time, I had bought 10 of the cheap amazon coils and had my mechanic put them all on and haven't had a problem in over a year.
Your problem sounds EXACTLY like mine. Just replace all coils for $60 and see what happens.
Our coils crapped out at about 170k. Denso coils and new plugs fixed the misfire. First tried just doing the plugs and it reduced the problem....coils cured it completely. I didn't realize they were the original plugs...doh. Not a bad job probably took an hour start to finish.

I work with a guy who has a 6.8 Ex and he did this very same thing... he's not mechanically inclined but swapped out all 10 plugs and COPs himself. Said it fixed stalling off idle and hesitation/stumbling when trying to get onto the highway
New Coils and new plugs in this past Saturday... So far, so good!
Hell yea. Wish i had just swapped out plugs/coils myself when i first had the problem. Instead I spent several thousand dollars, 6-7 120 mile roundtrips to a shop, uber rides back and forth to the shop to pick up and drop off....about 9 months i was taking the truck to this shop for the same problem.
I was besdie myself especially when they continued to charge me for 'shop supplies' every time they had it. Really, shop supplies? How about paying me for some vaseline for the way you guys gave it to me!?
Anyway, my blood pressure is going up thinking about it. lol.
Man i sure hope you're in the clear. It's been over a year since i replaced all coils/plugs, and runs great.
