Don't adjust the choke pull-off unloader unless you absolutely have to. And from your description, I don't think you should mess with it. Just for your info, if the choke unloader is adjusted so it cracks the door open too much, when the engine is cold and you set the choke and then start the engine, the engine will immediately stall out when the unloader opens the door too much. If the unloader doesn't open the door far enough, as soon as the engine starts, it will start running rough and blowing black smoke, because it's not getting enough air.
The choke takes awhile sometimes to get it set correctly. Just mess with the round black piece only. And make a mark or marks on it. You may find you will get it running perfectly now, but it may need a little tweaking in the summer when it's warm outside. You will finally find a happy place for it.
That open hole in the picture, when the engine is running, check to see if it's sucking air into that hole. If it is, you need to do something about that.
