66 Flareside Build Thread
There’s enough overlap with the rails to also run some bolts through the holes in the flanges and through some holes we drilled in the frame. When we do the final install, we will add some rubber washers and the felt paper to keep the vibrations and rattling to a minimum.
We also cleaned up the cross member that we removed yesterday. Plan to weld it in next weekend and finish up the details on mounting the tank.
Drove over to a friends house down the street, welded up the rear cross member and a brace in the front.
also pulled the front out of the crown Vic and degreased and pressure washed it real good.

54 years of nastiness.
Today’s activities will be removing the driver side motor mount, removing the front inner fenders from the front grill, and loading the truck onto the trailer to head over to a friends for some welding. We purchased some angle iron and flat bar to repair the chopped up cross member.

Reference lines set on ground with plumb bob and chalk line. Measured the center line between the frame rails.
Measuring the centerline of the front “axle”
Center line and perpendicular line to transfer to frame. Will be used for reference measurements.
Used a punch to simple the frame. Plumb Bob was used to transfer the location from ground to frame. Checked with squares and straight edges.
Then we got to drilling out the mounting sleeves from the crown Vic front end. Some wires were in the way of the drill on the passenger side. So I went to Lowe’s to buy an extension for the drill and bimetal hole saw.
Ended up tackling and subduing a guy who was trying to run out with a bunch of cordless drills. Held him down with another guy until the cops showed up. Good times!
here’s a few pics. If anyone sees any parts they might need, PM and we can work something out.
