Hello Ford Friends, I recently bought a rebuilt C6 transmission for my 1979 ford f150 4x4. I transplanted a 351 Windsor into it. I need to get the correct Transmission Modulator for it. I need an adjustable modulator for this 3 speed AT. Does anyone know which type and brand of modulator I need? I need to know the pin size I need too? Thanks. Harry
Thanks for the thread link, however, just wanted to know which is the right type of modulator would be best for my application. Will pull the current one off and also check pin size and band. I was hoping that someone out there had recommendations on brand and type to use.
I haven't changed one in awhile , my latest had a good one installed when I purchased the truck , I would buy mine from Napa if indeed I needed one and match the one in the old tranny
Ford ID's the modulator by the color of the band on them. Pretty much the "go to" modulator is either the black or green band, either will work. Avoid the pink or blue band. Those are a dual diaphragm versions and takes two vacuum lines.
Are you missing the pin? If not, you can just reuse the one you have.
I replaced one a few weeks ago with a Black striped one from NAPA. It was in stock at our local store and was less than $20. Works like a champ! As far as adjustments, I installed it as it came out of the box and everything seemed ok.
oddly, literally just watched a video where the guy was replacing his vacuum modulator and he measured the pin length at 1 5/8"... seems like a handy dimension to know.
