NP205 or NP203?
I'm trying to figure out what transfer case I have on my 79 F250 4x4, NP203 or NP205? How can I tell?

Looks like an NP205. Shift **** should read 4H-2H-N-4L.

No differential housing on the rear.

Plus it's Cast iron. Unless I am wrong, the 203 is aluminum?

[EDIT] Yup, I was. Man, There's a lot more x-case there!

Read the tag on the front ? X2 on looks like a NP-205. 3rd pic 205 on left 4th pic 205 on right.

Rich is correct. The small round plate on back of tranny with three bolts. mean np205, 203 doesn't have the plate.

A 203 is easily distinguishable by the gear reduction unit bolted to the front of the transfer case. 203's are H-U-G-E.
