Good Day
My SD has a tailgate camera installed and connected to a harness, but I can not for the life of me figure out where it terminates in or near to the cab. I'd like to connect an aftermarket monitor to it.
Any pointers would be of help.
Obviously as an LT work truck there is no factory monitor installed.
I'm confused on a few points. LT is a Chevy/GM term. What trim level do you have? An XL? What year? What packages? You said you have a tailgate cam installed and connected to a harness...what kind of camera is installed? Is it OEM? Aftermarket? What harness is it connected to, the one in the tailgate? Is it a standalone harness? I think we're going to need a bit more info here.
Like this?
I have seen a few XL trimmed trucks out there with no factory camera or backup screen to add one. Just the radio there. Looks odd when you see it.

Thanks Noreaster. Sorry about the LT...I meant XL
it is a 2017 as indicated in the header. It is very basic...plastic floormats, basic work truck with powerstroke engine.
It is an OEM camera which is connected to an OEM harness. Truck does not have a backup monitor. The only extra is basic SYNC with a very basic radio/cd/bluetooth.
Since you have Sync (not Sync 3), you have the 4" radio screen and the rear camera displays there. The rear camera connects to the FCDIM (Front Control Display Interface Module). Not sure how one would connect it to an aftermarket monitor,

Sorry I overlooked the year in the title. If you have factory camera and harness (the camera in the tailgate handle molding plugs into the main tailgate harness. If you removed the access panel on the tailgate you'd see the main harness and the connector which is 12-Pin I believe. So if that is all true, then as H20 said the factory camera should behave as a factory camera and display on the small 4" screen when in reverse. When you shift into reverse, does the screen change at all? Or does it go black? I might check the harness connections in the tailgate first. Also as H20 said, it would be tough to connect aftermarket into the appropriate module.
The truck has the 4 inch screen but no image comes up in Reverse. If I knew where the camera is supposed to connect, I could.look there. I'm guessing.it should.plug in to the back of the radio or maybe into the Sync unit. I'll have to explore a bit more.
