2017 F-250/F-350 Tailgate

Hey Guys, I am new to the forum but wanted to see what everyone is doing about tailgate thefts? I have a NEW 2017 F-350 Platinum and someone stole my tailgate already. The truck was locked and I had an additional aftermarket lock but that did not stop the thieves. I would also like to add an alarm and a tracker in case they come back for the truck. Thoughts?

How did they get it off if it was locked?

They pulled up the step inside the tailgate and took it apart somehow. Then they were able to trigger the tailgate to open

Gees with them doing that much work to steal it sounds like even if you would weld it solid they would have taken it anyways...

Sad fact is...if they want it...there is no way you will prevent them from getting it. Hopefully your insurance covers it.

It was a McGard lock. I have video cameras outside and watched them the next morning. It was dark so you can only make out two people at the back taking it apart. It did take them 22 minutes before it was off and they drove away. The incident took place at 12:32 am on a Tuesday morning.

Wow 22 mins. I am sorry to hear about it. You can add the Remote Access module which will also txt you when the alarm goes off. Adding the module also requires the upgraded alarm module.

Here is a thread on it.

Thats unfortunate. Mine was stolen in Dallas in September off my then Silverado, but I'm pretty sure I left it unlocked.

Luckily, there's insurance.

Yeah...but did the alarm go off at all in this case? Does it go off if you open the tailgate with the truck locked...which technically...you can't. But what if you pry the locked tailgate off...will the horn start honking?? I'm talking about on the regular alarm without adding anything. Thanks

Highly motivated for a $4000+ score in 22 minutes. Well worth that time to a thief and risk of being caught.
