I have a 99 F350 crew cab 7.3. I just bought this truck, and realized the headlights don’t work. After a bit of investigating, I realized that the previous owner cut both headlight sockets out. For what reason is beyond me. I was wondering if anyone had, or could possibly take a photo of their stock headlight wiring to the socket? Or possibly share a link to a photo, or thread? I’ve looked online, but can only find wiring diagrams, and I can’t make heads or tails out of that kind of stuff. I need one or two good shots of what wire goes to what pin on the socket. The after market sockets I bought, the wiring colors do not match, obviously. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Wesley. Excuse my ignorance, this is the first time owning a diesel, or having this type of issue. Looks like your stock wiring is a bit different than mine. I think the most important thing is to get the ground in the right location. Looks like from your thread, the ground is the black wire and goes to the center post in the socket. So black wire from truck, to yellow wire on my new sockets.... then I can hook up the others and test hi/low beams, and flip them if they aren’t correct.
I like the upgrade you did, with the relays. May look into that in the future. For now, I’d just like to have headlights haha! Again, I appreciate your response. It’s def a step in the right direction.
Give me a few minutes, I will snap a couple pictures for you and post them here.
This is the driver side OEM headlight socket. I could not get to the passenger side because it is tucked underneath the battery as I have an aftermarket harness with relays connected directly to the batteries.
Yes my ground wire is the middle in the stock sockets. I tried to use the same color wire as stock, but finding striped wire is nearly impossible without ordering a few hundred foot, plus both passenger wires are green with different colored stripes.
Why Ford went and powered it all directly thru the headlight switch is so silly with that small gauge.
Guys... I really appreciate your help! No worries with the passenger side, I’m gonna assume that the blue wire with the orange stripe goes to the same pin as the blue wire with the white stripe (driver side). If its wrong I’ll just need to flip them around. I’ll be wiring them up within the next few days. I’ll be sure to post up some photos when I’m done. Maybe help others in the future with this issue. Thanks for your time and efforts!
@7.3powerstrokeBob , I followed John and added to your reputation as well. In addition, I have added your findings to the 7.3L PSD Tech Folder under the Electrical header.
