Was driving home in my 2000 ranger, 3l & 5spd . Came to a stoplight, pushed in clutch & truck acted like clutch was out. It kinda lurched & died, it restarted ok but now it won't go into any gear. Any ideas of what to look for before I take it to
a garage?
Well, how does your clutch pedal feel with the engine off? Does it need the same push to get it to the floor? Can you move the shift lever around like you used? Your "not going into any gear" symptoms might be because your clutch is not disengaging?
I suspect your hydraulic slave system has failed, but I haven't heard all of your symptoms yet.

The clutch feels the same as usual, the shifter won't go into gear. Almost like clutch isn't pushed in except it doesn't grind.
Have you checked the fluid level in the clutch reservoir under the hood. No fluid means a giant leak in the hydraulic line.
Just went over & looked at it, fluid is full. Clutch still feels normal but shift lever feels sorta like its locked up. It will move side to side but won't move forward or backward into any gear. Maybe a linkage issue?
Same thing happened to my old 98 Ranger. The issue was the pilot bearing. It piled up and locked the input shaft. The clutch disk was still over 50% with 235K on it. It only took . The only had to take 004 off at the machine shop to refinish the flywheel. Swapped I replaced the disk and pressure plate out anyway. We also put in a new needle bearing style pilot bearing instead of the bushing that came with the clutch kit. I gave the truck away at 272K when I upgraded to a 4x4. As far as I know, it is still on the road.

Thanks for the input, I'll have to look into that. Done a fair amount of miscellaneous repairs but never a clutch. Truck only has 100k miles on it & is 4x4.
Finally got it towed to our local mechanic, he said the throwout bearing was pretty bad & the clutch springs were broke. So it's getting a clutch kit, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, flywheel & pressure plate.
