I noticed my '99 started getting difficult to get in gear & shift, within a coupe of days the peddle was barely off the floor before it would engage. A day later it started 'creeping' if started while in gear. Replaced the master/slave cylinders with no change.
Is a clutch replacement the next step? Just thought I would ask before throwing money at it, since the only other times I've had clutch issues there was slipping or it just plain exploded.
Sounds like you're going to be pulling the trans. At that point it's usually best to replace the clutch based on how much work it took to get there. Sounds like your clutch is shot though. How many miles are on the clutch?
I've put about 75k on it but the truck has almost 250k. I'm pretty good tearing through an engine, just have never messed with a clutch or transmission.
My clutch fork measured right at 2.5" to the outside of the housing and doesn't appear to be bent once I got it out. The pivot ball did have a tab missing but I don't think that would cause my problems. Everything else looks in good shape. The one thing I could find were these pieces inside the pilot bearing where the transmission shaft goes in and wear grooves in the transmission shaft (I'm guessing that it should be smooth). My question is, if the pilot bearing was bad, could that be what is causing my problem?
Not likely. A pad pilot typically causes the trans to pop out of gear. Slap a new clutch in there and you should be good to go.
That's your throw out bearing, that exploded. Slap new one on, and if the end of input shaft is destroyed/knarled, then install a FITZSLL kit from eBay. Make sure you buy the 7.3 kit. The 6.9 kit looks similar but its not. I have one installed on my shaft. Comes with new pilot bearing that the id is a tad bigger for the new sleeve that is installed over the nipple of the shaft. Make sure the orange lip of bearing is facing you. I had good luck so far with the Napa T.O. bearing
It didn't dawn on me until I went to install the clutch that the alignment tool that came with the clutch wouldn't fit the larger ID of the pilot bearing that came with the sleeve. Do they make an alignment tool tat fits it, or is there another way to get the clutch plate centered when installing?

Not sure if they make an alignment tool specifically for the fitzall but you could always build up the tool shaft with some electrical tape to just shy of the ID of the bearing.
Strange...I never gave that a thought but don't think/remember encountering an issue. I do however need to get back in there soon, since mines chartering at idle...
