Okay guys,
I am looking for recommendations on upgrading my brakes. Looking for caliper suggestions, rotors and pads. If you can recommend a package, that would be great. I've got a 2007 F-350 4X4 diesel and at 240,000 miles, it's kinda just getting broken in. Thanks in advance.
I’d stick with Motorcraft parts, especially if the original Ford parts lasted you this long
my 2006 F350 5.4l CC had problems with sticking calipers, etc. Brake shops couldn’t fix it. Finally took it to the Ford dealer for new calipers and rotors - no issues after that. Was pretty much just a plow truck, so only had about 62,000 miles on it when got rid of it this past Spring.
I put the Power Stop kit on our ‘00 F350 that included rebuilt factory calipers, high heat “towing” pads and the slotted/drilled rotors. I love this kit, but I know others have had problems with warping rotors, mostly due, it seems, to the break-in procedures for the rotors. Mine broke in great, but I used the same method as I always have with high performance brake rotors in cars; really just a modified version of the instructions that come with the kit.
All that being said, the brakes perform great, especially when towing (usually in the 10-14k range) over the mountains in WNC. They are a bit wooden feeling if they are cold, especially unloaded, but really work better and better as they get some heat into them - just what I want when towing. I’m approaching 10k towing with them in less than a year, and when it comes time to replace the pads on this or our ‘06 F350 dump truck, I will be using these pads. Not much in the way of brake dust, either; a complete surprise on that count as most of the previous high performance pads I have used generated a fair amount.
