Brake upgrades

I'm just about ready for pads and rotors on my '06 F350. I regularly gross 25K and even tho I've had no problems with my stock brakes, I've felt them fade under heavy braking and think an upgrade isn't a bad idea.

I've been looking at this kit from Power Stop. Drilled & slotted rotors with metallic pads for all 4 wheels for about $550. Any thoughts about the kit or suggestions for a different setup?

EDIT: I found the 4033-36 kit at The Brake Guys for $486 w/free shipping!

FWIW i looked at the same kit for my truck which is an 02. But after reading on here and seeing some of the threads that people have posted up mainly Stewart and Snowseeker and their experiences with Drilled rotors. i decided against it. When i can pony up the money for new rotors and pads i'm going to go with a high quality blank rotor and Hawk LTS pads

to basically sum it up, the drilled part will just lead to cracking and the slotted part is okay but unnecessary with new pad technology

As stated, drilled rotors are really a bad idea. With quality pads the only thing that slots will gain you with the exception of appearance is a little quicker bite when the rotors are wet.

The '05 up pads for the SDs are a very good pad. You can season the pads for higher temps by occasionally doing 5 stops in a row from 50 to 20 at a normal deceleration rate then let them cool while driving.

If you still think that you want some better thermal stability you can go with Hawk LTS pads, which are a high metallic compound. You will trade off some characteristics of the OE pads, which they are will depend on your driving style/environment.

I recently did my old 93 with drilled and slotted plated rotors and matching pads. Best set of brake ever. More than worth the $250 it cost me. Free shipping. Shop for yours U will like M too I also replace the calipers. They cost more than the others until I got my core credits back. Also was a great decision to replace them. Total was less then $400 and best ever stopping truck I have owned. Braking is smoother and better, completely silent, than when new. AN the plated rotors really look nice thru the rims.

Remember if changing pads for brake fade, change out your soft rubber brake lines when you do. Over time they begin to swell when braking causing a softer pedal and longer braking distances. Some even go with braided stainless for towing heavy. I just changes out the rubber lines with OEM ones when I changes pads. So far, I've only had to change out my X one time. The pads I have on there now are Motorcraft pads with 101k mile on them.
