I think I'm going to go with the 05 SD F250 rear diff with the 4.30 gears (truck has front end damage), and a replacement driveshaft for $800 shipped. This way I will be able to keep my original diff and maybe rebuild it, or use the LS carrier to swap into the replacement 4.30 if I feel the need/want and it does not have LS. But that would be down the road a bit.
Product Total $523.50
Shipping $225.00
Tax $52.40
Total $800.90
Just remember there are different types of pinion yolks some have the U joint strap ones and there are some with bolt on type. Trucks have different shock mount and most ive seen are welded to the axel so take that into consideration as well, some axels have the driver side caliper in front and some have the driver side caliper facing the rear like the passenger side so you will need the appropriate caliper and brake line.
When I installed a JY 4.30 axel from an X all of the stuff I posted came into the mix minus the shock brackets.
Suggest you get a 2nd opinion on the rebuild cost from someone who does a lot of them. "$2k buy used" sounds like advice from someone who doesn't want to do it.

Not sure what "$2k buy used" is? But you are correct, he did say he would rather not do it, but that would be his price from start to finish if I did want him to do it. I have been working on this for a week now and have not come across someone who does "a lot of them" in my area. I have only found 1 shop that works on drive shafts. The old go to shop, Miami Drive Line seems to have closed.

I went ahead and placed my order for the LKQ junkyard parts. Both ATK and Jasper $1800+ and 2100+ respectively, and they do not include the axle shafts. What you do get from both is a warranty, which I am not from the LKQ junkyard pulls. Its $800.90 total including tax and shipping, not bad for a complete setup. Now going to order a new set of rear pads, some Synth 140w diff fluid. I should be able to use anything else I need from my current axle if there is anything missing or damaged on the LKQ one.

Thank you for the offer. Other than needing some help moving parts around (complete rear axle assembly) I do feel I have the tools and skills needed to do this job. Setting up a R&P, and doing it right is a job I'd want someone who knows what they are doing to do.
How is the brake Hardline from the master cylinder to the rear axle? My 99 Super Duty had to be replaced back in May when I was installing new stainless soft lines. Wasn't bad to bend and flare some Ni-Cop with new fittings.

Get two furniture dollies from Harbor Freight ($8 each I think). Set the brake rotors into the center of each one and you can move it all over with your pinkie. That is how I moved my axles around by myself on my axle swap.

Naaa, I have a friend that I helped out with his Lexus, pay back time. :-) Actually he is recently retired LEO and bored out of his mind. Keeps asking me when I am going to start taking it apart so he can come over and help. He's a good guy, but not a mechanic...
Edit, I also have a set of car wheel dollies from HF. Those will do.
