Wow, Thanks for the kind words....i love doing this project... its altso kind of showing respect to these fantastic «tools» that helped building our country after the war... they said that vehicles its just dead things....but i think for many of us these trucks have soul and meaning much for us.
i used to work for a local helicopter company...my favorite helicopter we had was this Bell 214b,this machine did a great jobb all this years building up Norway,(powerlines ,heavy lifting)...now this machine flying firefighting in Australia...knowing that this «tool with soul» doing a so important job means a lot for so many....its kind the same with our trucks....if you understand...😉😀😀

make your self a nice day............ im still struggling with sanding on my cab...😂😂😂😂😂😂

Coming along nicely. Sometimes I wish I would have done that with mine.

You are doing an amazing job on your Grandpa's truck! I love the military history of the truck and the paperwork you have on it as well. The German army used a lot of '38-'40 Ford trucks.

Decided to cut out some of the ribs in the grille..need some strighten and some welding in some cracks...

Fixing the ribs was harder then i first thought.....the steel had been streched...so i had to cut out some material..some welding there.....i think its not a big deal....i will never get them perfect...

The doors are now 100% ready for filler and primer.

Got a package today with the window running channels kit....Yes , i have doors from a 42 model....the difference is only that on the 40/41 models there are no window frame on the glass....so...but i have glass for the 40 mod doors, its possible to build back later.

Later on, grandpa altso got this Bedford......im not sure whitch model it is...but i guess it was not same Quality as the old Ford😹 Grandma and grandpa ( love the way he was dressed, it was style those days...i still have his old caps..)....my dad to the right.

An odd picture from Kjevik airport in Kristiansand(far south Norway) ,during ww2 , it was overrunned by an luftwaffe bomber aircraft, eaten by angry propellers....i guess those Fords came to Norway with the same boat as mine.(pict from Internett)....

Little testing....i see that im going to need a little help when testmounting everything before painting...i need to make new holes here and there😹 the fender aprons and the fender does not align very good with the holes....

Spotwelded the 2 grillbars that i cut out few days ago and sandblasted a little....will wait with the center bar to after testmounting...noticed that im missing 2 crome trim strips too...

You have to wonder how the truck was over-run by a plane! Possibly a take-off or landing in fog?

At any rate, don't drill new alignment holes in your fenders and grille before doing a mock-up for fitment issues
upon FINAL assembly. LOOSELY assemble the pieces, with the aid of a friend, and if possible, only elongate
(lengthen) the existing holes if needed. These sheetmetal front pieces can be difficult to align, especially the
mid-thirties cars with their 4 piece hoods!
Good luck!

Nils,
I very much agree with this sentiment! When I was restoring my truck I tried to re-use as many original parts as possible. I think it helped maintain the “soul” of the truck. Keep the pics coming!

Sprayed on some filler primer just to see how it looks...not that bad...have to fill up smal scratches and some small «potholes»....

The rear upper door part...i did weld it up, tinned and have now put on some hi quality bondo, its very hard and good for making the profiles and edges.....i think i have to made me a sanding block with a nice radius ....to get happy with the profile.

Your cab is quite straight, even the vulnerable lower corners that usually require replacement. ( Back panel under window came
out great.)
Truck must have been properly stored for most of its life?

Put the cab down on the floor on a pallet, easier access to the rooftop.

The vent was rusted away, so i cut this one out of my donor cab, and welded it in...ended up quite good.

Im not satisfied with the roof....its a lot of dents, so i use a big file and a dolly, slapping the file around the dent/sinked spot in the metal, holding the dolly from inside....its very effective to strighten out the low spot. It will not be 100% but a little bit better would be fine. I think i will not put on bondo.just sand over and spray filler and primer.
