Hey there, Im a new owner of a 7.3idi turbo F250. I was told vy the seller it needs a new Transmission. With doing some reasearch i wanna see if i could get somes codes and fix my self.I dont know much about mechanics but I'm learning quick.. but not quick enough.. my daily driver was hit last week and written off. So put insurance on the truck and within a day it was in limp mode. Transmission fluid was nasty burnt smelling and looking and it was over full of fluid. I've changed the fluid and filter gasket. It drove good for a couple days now back in limp mode. And now it wont even go into gear.
If there is anyone out there plwase help a guy out. Thanks
If it won't go into gear the codes are not going to help. But here is how to read the codes on your truck: www.troublecodes.net/ford
I see two possibilities when it won't go into gear. The better one is that the pressure feed bolts between the valve body and the case are loose and leaking pressure. To check them you have to drop the pan and the valve body. If they are not loose the next step is to remove the trans and rebuild or replace it.
I'll keep my OD unit and my 3.55 and enjoy the Fuel savings over a 3 or 4 speed
just wish my 1990 Jeep Had automatic but it wasn't offered with the diesel but for sure I will change that when the 5 speed fails, IF I can ever find a Flexplate and an adapter for it.
