I started to rebuild my 76 F-250 , 390 rebuilt 30 over aluminum intake new Holley 650. 10.5: pistons, if I remember correctly Started this project 30 years ago as a frame up. Took body off. Had a cab from a 73 that I wanted to replace it with but couldn’t get it to work lining up . I’m now wanting to start looking for a replacement cab n box . What years of cab n box interchange without modifications ?
I am doing the same thing as we speak. I believe the back two cab mounts will need to be redrilled and all the bed mounts will need reinforcement and redrilled if you don’t use a 73-77 1/3 cab and bed F250 4X4.
4wd. I have a utility box similar. And will try to replace it with another. I like the look n utility. When I started this project I was a young man eager to learn. Just really liked machines. So maybe my problem was I just didn’t know enough or you can’t put a 73 cab on a 76. If I remember correctly it was not only the mount, location but how the firewall was located. But again I was doing it by myself, never done anything like it before. Using my 1959 International linesman truck with a boom.
So wanted to know what cabs will interchange with a 76 . Or do maybe 73-76 ?
Thanks
all cabs will from 73 to 79,,front cab mounts fit perfect; back cab mounts will work on 77.5-79 cab with drilling and re-positioning bolt in cab,you dont have to do anything with the mounts on your frame,,,,,,I put a 79 cab on my 75 chassis no big deal you should have a 360 in your truck later 70's went with the 351m/400 nothing changes

Like I mentioned, the cab is a 77 on a 76 chassis.
The utility bed will be replaced with the 77 box before purchase.
I do like the look of the utility box, but I don't have a use for it.
It is not only about what year the cab is but what model as well. All F250 regular and crew cabs up to 77.5 are referred to as "High Boys". The frame is narrower on these from the rear of the cab back. Every other 73-79 (including ALL F150s and F350s) do not have the narrowed rear frame. So unless you are putting a "High Boy" cab on your truck you will have to redrill the rear cab mounts. Good luck and better late than never!
Most people skip this detail, but there are subtle differences between 2WD cabs and 4WD cabs with the wider frame. This was most notably seen when I swapped a 1979 F150 2WD Lariat cab onto my 1978 F250 4WD frame.
One of the cab sheet metal cross-members had to be notched in order to clear the transfer case without hitting. When comparing the 2WD cab to the 4WD cab (side-by-side in my garage when doing the swap), there was a dimple placed in the sheet metal cross-member on the 4WD cab to accommodate the transfer case. There is no such dimple in the same location on the 2WD cab, thus it had to be notched slightly to clear the very top of the transfer case nearest the jiggle pin (t-case vent).
Hey Aron interesting,,my 75 hb chassis allowed the 79 2wd cab to sit right on with no altercations except drilling the inside of cab to line up with rear cab mounts probably because of divorced T/C

Front cab mounts are always in the same location 2wd or 4wd, hi-boy or not, single cab or super cab or crew cab.
Rear single cab mount locations had 2 different setups, body mounts were bolted through a crossmember between the frame rails, or were bolted onto frame mounts that were riveted on outside of the frame
original rear cab mounting on my truck, married t-case, mounting holes were rusted out and thin and I didn't need to fill and re-cut them as had solution from parts truck new cab was off truck with divorced t-case, so crossmember was in different place on divorced t-case donor truck, so used frame mounts from donor truck with donor cab and bolted them on, worked out fine, rest of body lined up perfect, painted them black before installing cab
