Ignition Control Module Wiring

I'm doing pretty good on my 1984 Ford F150 4.9L 300 I6 2WD Styleside.

Picture one: I got pretty much everything attached to the powder coated frame. I was working on the engine, sitting over there in the corner. Everything that goes on the engine is sitting on the floor around it. Water pump, power steering pump, smog pump (I live in California), temp housing, etc...but, I decided to change course to electrical. The cab, bed and doors were dipped at Metalworks in Oregon, they are on standby with new hood, fenders and bed panels. I am retired, so when I am not watching my kids play sports, and I have finished my "honey do list", I work on the truck and listen to oldies on the radio.

Here's where I am at:

Question 1... (picture two) What is the black single line connector, with the yellow wires? Name and function? The yellow wire into the connector is being held on by 5 of 9 wires on one side and at the other side, the wire coating is so brittle, it's exposed about two inches of wire.

Question 2... (picture two) Do I need this connector? I am buying a new 6 wire ignition control module with pigtails. I am wondering If I can lose the black connector and cut back the yellow wiring to fit the new connectors pigtails?

Question 3....If I need one, does anyone know where I can get one?

I appreciate the help.

Thanks,

Allen

That looks like the SPOUT connector to a TFI-IV ignition system.

You are doing an amazing job btw. What do you mean about dipped? Hot tanked or galvanized? I always wondered if that service was available for such large parts. Just spit-balling, but I think that might be the spout connector, which means it is necessary. It is an important testing feature which disconnects the computer from the ignition to set timing among other things.

Kudos to you for keeping the feedback system. Most people are afraid of it.

Thanks. I've been taking my time. Save a little, buy something. Save a little, do something else, etc...

I figured out the issue with the wire connector. Like you said, they disconnect it to do the timing and any trouble shooting, but I can get another connector and wire it in with the new ignition control module connector. Just as lone as they can disable that "SPOUT" it should be fine.

They dip the cab in a solution that removes paint, sealants, grease, etc... takes two days. They pressure wash it and then dip it in another solution that removes the rust. It's not acid based, its something else. They pressure wash it and put a solution on it to keep it from rusting. Its supposed to last up to a year, but I am noticing some dust rust on the bed.

Have a nice day... Got work to do... : )
