Tailgate Recall Announced Today by Ford for HD Trucks
An announcement was on the news today indicating Ford would be issuing a recall of tailgates premature opening on 2017, 2018, and 2019 Heavy Duty models. It was on broadcast news. The physical notifications will be going out in January according to the announcement. I had already reported this problem to the NTSB about two months back. It has happened six times for my 2017 F250, once while driving on the expressway and a large piece of luggage fell out in heavy traffic (and I was not aware of the tailgate being down until someone pulled up beside me let me know. We never recovered the luggage which had clothing and several pieces of my wife's jewelry, cosmetics, prescriptions, etc. We were on an extended cross-country trip when it happened. To my thinking Ford should be responsible for our loss because it was within our deductible limit.
Dealer noticed today this recall applies to my truck. It showed on his computer they wouldn't have the info or parts to fix it for a week or so. Haven't had it open on me yet, but its a used 2018 and only had it a couple weeks.
Just dropped my 2019 f350 at the dealer yesterday for the tailgate. Interested to hear what they find.
Please post up any details that you can find out, how involved it is. This make 2 recalls and 1 FSA on my truck. I absolutely HATE having the dealer molest my truck so this is disappointing. I'm hoping mine wont actually need to be touched, the tailgate has never opened on it's own.
This is great news for me! i've had my tailgate open many times over the past year and a half (even damaging the tailgate once). Happy ford is finally fixing it!
mine has the tailgate and drl recalls, FSA for power steering hoses.
I have had my tailgate open a few time but attributed it to the fob being in my pocket with other keys.
All New 19's at the dealers lots can't be sold until the tailgates are updated. Went to my dealer yesterday trying to purchase a F350 and can't be sold until after Dec 16th or 17th when the parts become available.
Not making fun of anyone because I realize it can be frustrating to have a new truck act up it strange ways. Issues like this make me perfectly content to stick with my '65 and my 2002 which don't have features like electric tailgates. I can see why Ford wants to add new features but somethings should be left alone..like a plain old simple tailgate.

You can still get a manually operated tailgate, just have to stick to the lower trim models. But really it's simple technology that's been used in various cars, SUVs and vans for decades. For whatever reason, Fords parts choice or implementation seems to be lacking in various areas.
Hey everyone, new user here and just bought a brand new 2019 F350 SRW lariat on Friday. This recall effects my truck.. I wasn't able to drive it off the lot Friday.
They did not tell me about the recall and that it was stuck at the dealer until I got there so this is quite frustrating.
Does anyone know what the fix is yet and how long until the dealer can fix it?
