Has anyone done a complete rewire on their truck - I have 79 f150 and am thinking about doing a rewire. Have looked at American wire
and painless. Any suggestions on who might have the most complete kit and correct connectors. any pictures would be helpful.
I'm almost done rewiring mine. I did the American. Painless is way too much money I feel. Here is a link to what I will use next yr in my next truck half the price of painless and you will get the right connectors.
I just did an American Classic Update for my 73. Wasn't too bad just had to re use some of my old sockets which if you didn't have on the old truck or threw your old harness away you'd be up the crick. All connections were included with several other options for upgraded instrument clusters, power seat, window, options etc. a nice kit but expensive
I have a ron Francis kit for the 4.6 swap. Kit is very well put together and their tech support is great. They are really knowledgeable and willing to help out.
Spoke to the guys at centech wire. They were very helpful. Jim was the guy I spoke to. he said he is the ford guy there and very familiar with ford trucks.
he recommended getting rid of the ignition setup right off and going with an upgrade. He says he can wire the harness to accommodate the ignition system.
Any suggestions ?
I went with Centech on my 75 crew cab. I really like the kit and it worked excellent for me. The Centech kit is a bit different in that it is a point to point wiring setup. Basically you run each wire separately, it is not a harness in the traditional sense. Each wire is labelled the full length of the wire which is really nice. IIRC all of the connectors were included and very detailed instructions which were easy to follow.
I chose to upgrade to a MSD all in one distributor at the time (have since switched to a Holley Dual-Sync when I converted to EFI). If I were to do it again or on another truck I wouldn't hesitate to go with Centech again.
could you check this out - its on ebay - its a TSP brand for not a lot of money . is this the type you are talking about ? will it work ? I have a 351 m
I would second the Ron Francis choice, their customer service and knowledge are hard to beat. Order the catalog and look at their content and tips section. They pick up the phone which is nice and they really know their product. There are cheaper options out there but hearing a voice when you're high centered is a nice touch.
