Post Wiring Harness

I'm thinking about buying a new wiring harness for my 79 f150 supercab. the wiring in it is pretty hacked up, especially in the engine bay. i was wondering if anyone has done this before and can give me some fore thought or advice. i am planning on buying a universal 18 fuse, 21 circuit harness.any advice or help is appreciated as this is my daily driver and im in highschool(stuck riding the bus as of now). the wiring is gone and is causing problems throughout the truck. thanks

Centech wire harness is another good way to go. They will make the harness pretty much to your specs for your truck. They use Ford connectors when possible. Less money also than painless.

yeah ive read on painless and centech, i think the painless kit for a 73-77 is around $1100 dollars and the centech is around $500-600. but is it really worth that much more money to buy a specific one?

If you get a universal kit with out the specific ford ends you'll have to cut your original ends off and reuse. Im talking about headlights and turn signal sockets, ignition module connectors, etc. That's very time consuming and if not done properly with solder and heat shrink you'll not be any better off than you are now. Id definitely pay extra for a plug and play harness.

I paid $460 for mine and had it in a week. Call Centech directly and ask for Jim. He was very helpful and will walk you through what you need to do.

welp...talked to the mom haha....shes helping a little as of i have no job because of wrestling. but she said either universal or nothing so i guess its going to bain a pain but im sure i can manage. as of now i am dis-assembling everything. (taking out gauges, stereo, etc.) but while i am at it i am going to take out the factory a/c box and all that because i dont have the compressor. i plan on taking out the whole dash today to make it alot easier on unbolting the a/c box...i will be posting pictures as soon as i can. thanks for all the help...also would a soldering gun from advanced auto be fine?

Why not just replace it with a factory harness in decent shape? You might have a few connectors to change but it would be better than all of them.
That would save you a bunch of cash also.

Post a pic or two of the harness you need. I have 3 relatively complete harnesses that are pretty good and a big pile of bagged individual sections.

The 3 have the large firewall grommet with the plastic tube attached(i think). I think these were for later trucks such as yours.

well i spent a while going through the original harness and repairing sections that were either spliced or burnt/melted...and it turns out it was my starter switch too...so im replacing both of those and saving my money having to buy a new harness
