No Overdrive issues

My dad has a 2017 f150 with 5.4 with 110,000 miles, 3 months ago driving down the road in overdrive and the truck all of a sudden seemed like it was in neutral. Once he shifted it down to lower gears it did fine but in overdrive it was like it was in neutral. Transmission shop said it was an overdrive C clip that broke and they replaced it and it ran fine. Now 3 months later the same-thing has happened. The shop fixed it again and only charged him for transmission fluid. But his concern is this just going to keep happening or should he consider just rebuilding the transmission? The shop who fixed said they didn't know why the new broke again. He is just wanting to see if this has happened to anyone else and if so some advise.

It could be possible that the shop messed something up when installing the new c-clip and that caused it to break again. If it's running okay now I'd leave it be until it breaks again. If it does break again,whatever the issue, buy a re-manufactured tranny with a warranty and be done with it.
