so i bought a 2001 7.3 powerstroke for a good price and it had misfiring for a bit but i'm sure it was the wire harness did not get connected properly and i was driving down the road and it died so i put it in neutral and it started up maybe a little har drove it for a mile and died again so i parked it at my brothers and it would just crank and crank would not start so i replaced the icp the cam sensor rebuilt the ipr valve checked the oil, replaced the fuel filter and i have plenty of oil in the hpop. when i spray a little either in it runs for like a second and then dies and i only did it once so is there anything you guys thing is wrong.
First quit using ether, the glow plugs will ignite it and . Were all the replacement sensors OEM? If not replace them with OEM, these trucks do not like aftermarket sensors. Sounds like a fuel issue: How full is the tank, If it has less than a quarter tank and the pick up foot broke off you may see it start briefly then die. You can try adding 5 gallons of fuel to the tank or pull the line off the back of the pump add a hose to it and draw directly from a 5 gallon jug. I’m going to guess you do not have a fuel pressure gauge? You need 45 minimum but upwards of 65 psi is better. Another thing you may want to look at is unplugging your fuel bowl heater and checking fuse 30 under the dash. Since you’ve been cranking it a lot I would also put the charger on the batteries or have them load tested...
He means unplug the fuel bowl heater..... then check fuse to make sure it isn't blown. If blown, replace fuse and try to crank it without fuel bowl heater wire connected
I'd suggest checking your main ground on engine block too
Your fuel bowl heater plug is located on the aft side of the fuel bowl. See Picture.
You changed your fuel filter and may have damaged it. They can be anything from a small diameter wire to what you see below. You do not need this plugged in or working for the truck to run fine. You do need the circuit the fuse is on for the truck to run, so if fuse 30 is bad, replace it after unplugging the fuel bowl heater.
You need to check the basics. Is your fuel pump running when you turn the key on? If no, then you probably have a bad pump, but you will need to check for voltage at the pump to make sure.
If your fuel pump is working, check fuel pressure at the bowl with a gauge. You should have a minimum of 51 PSI.
Check that and let us know. It seems like it could be the fuel pump. A good check of all of the UVCH Connectors and the 42 Pin connector on the drivers side valve cover for security should be done.
so my friend came over and he said he knew about the 7.3 powerstrokes and he sprayed a bit of either in the intake and cranked and cracked and it ran away but i choked it in time and sometimes it back fires in the intake and a flame comes out well i let it it for a night and i was going to try it again i cycled the glow plugs and no back fire so i had a piece of cardboard by me just incase and i cranked it once and it sounds like it slow and the engine doesn't want to move but it almost fired up but i stoped turning the key once i heard it starting faster and i checked the codes and p1670 came up and p0562, p0340, p1210 but they just pop up with different codes all the time should i try to start it or not and i don't know what to do.
Well...#1 rule is no ether in trucks with glow plugs, the glow plugs will light the ether off before it's supposed to fire and bad things happen. What does the engine do when you turn it over now and is it any different than it was before the ether was use?
