I bought what was supposed to be a 292 but it shrunk to a 239 on way home. It had the 3 speed attached. It had one intake manifold bolt missing and one loose. I can uncover it later if you want t know which specific bolts. I'm assuming they attached to those two.
The 239 is a y-block, right? I've pulled v8's before. The thing that's confusing me is the 223, being a straight 6, the intake and exhaust is on the same side. I'd think that, to balance the engine, I'd want a point on the right and left side of the engine. My best guess right now is to remove the rocker arm assembly and use it's bolt holes. But I'm concerned those bolts won't hold the 500+ lbs of the dressed engine and transmission. My second choice is headbolt on the left side and an exhaust manifold bolt on the right side. But that makes me wonder how I'd replace the engine. I don't want to loosen a headbolt on my rebuilt engine.
There isn't much on the right side for sure. Can't see through the grease to see but only see coil bolts and motor mount bolts. Probably I would chain to motor mount or one of the two motor mount bolts. Maybe remove distributor to keep from damaging it.
I would be surprised if you can get the 223 out with the tranny attch. That thing is pretty long. You have to go side ways to get it in and out without the tranny.
I think I removed the rocker cover and then the rocker shaft and attached chain to a couple of bolts. I have the manual but do not have that unique tool.
