I’d recommend a new dipstick adapter for oil pan and a moroso oil pan gasket and throw a new melling lpop in it and oem oil cooler seals. Not everything else can easily be done in truck. Trust me best pan gasket is best way to go. Good luck looks like a fun project

If I had my engine out and on a stand I would not even mess with sealing the dipstick I would use the weld in adapter and end that drama forever. Can you change the Moroso gasket while the engine is in the truck?
New engine stand. I started cleaning the motor up today. Lots of oil and grime on everything! Couple cans of degreaser should help. I taped off all of the entry points into the engine and soaked her in degreaser.
so far I have removed the turbo. That is all. Trying to get the grease and grime removed before I open anything up. The valley is full of schmutz, dont want to get it anywhere. In 250000 miles this thing sure leaked a lot
Well I finally got the engine degreased and the valley cleaned out. Looks almost new in there now. I took 1 valve cover off before dinner and pulled out the bosch glow plugs to replace with motorcraft and started taking the injector oil spouts off to get the injectors out. They are all reman injectors so they've been gone through at some point. Not the originals. I'm going to pull them and clean them, and then put new o rings on them and in they go. My riff raff box will be here friday with my fuel bowl rebuild and the rest of the o rings for oil galleys and such. Hope to have her back together soon. I want to drive the ol girl!
Putting some work in today. Got the motor almost all the way out after a lot of cussing and yelling. Started recovering the wiring harness as well. There was a broken wire for injector 1, so I am digging in to find out where it's broken. I'm also going to run a GPR led mod wire through the harness so it doesnt stick out.
Thanks to the creative enthusiasm of my 7 year old, the broken wire in the harness is fixed and the injector should work without random extra wires in the engine bay now
Thanks! It looks so much better without the jacket falling off of the wiring harness. It looks almost new again. Got the rebuilt fuel bowl and fuel pump on the new motor. Got some other little items taken care of. It's getting there. Slowly but surely
Found a christmas deal on a deleted EBPV pedestal with a deleted housing and all the hardware. They also had a deal on billet turbo wheels...$59, I couldn't pass it up!
Now just have to wait for my riff raff box with my turbo rebuild kit and the rest of my seals and orings and this motor can go in!
Got some work in on the old girl the last couple days after my box from Clay came in! Some eager young diesel mechanics wanted to work, so we got the motor buttoned up and the turbo rebuilt. Now to finish the wiring harness and drop her back in!
Real quick, are you at least resealing up pipes? I sure would while it's out. It will be WAY WAY easier to do so.
Yes. I dont have the extra to do bellowed uppies right now, but it will be included on my full engine build when I start it. I bought the oversized up pipe gaskets from Clay to re seal the up pipes for now. Should last long enough to do what I need it to do!
On a side note, when I had my e99 I upgraded the fuel heater to the newer solid element one. I thought it would work on this as well, but it doesnt fit in the bowl! Gotta get the correct heater element and a new tube for the filter housing (efuel coming for the new engine, not for this one).

Good deal. The originals lasted this long, so I wouldn't worry about it too much until you get a new engine rebuild and then you can do the bellows. As far as the heater element, ditch it and don't worry about it. Everyone does and there's no difference in keeping the fuel from gelling or performance issues regarding fuel delivery. That way you don't have to worry about any kind of short happening and helps keep your bowl little cleaner.
