What can cause a sound as if something is wrapped around the front drive shaft or front half shaft (like a tie wrap for example) when there is nothing wrapped around either?
sometimes you get a small rock or stick up around the brake backer plate and it gets stuck... then it rubs on the brake disc as the tire rotates.. Also if you have done brake / wheel work lately, the backer plate can get Bent, and then rubs as the wheel turns.
Thanks Steve.
I just finished doing L/S ball joints. It was making the sound prior to doing any of that work. Although it is worse now then before doing any of that. And there was nothing stuck in either of what's left of the rusting backing plates. I think it's mostly coming from the R/F wheel area.
This is a very obvious flapping sound that can be felt thru the floor board. The sound happens faster as speed increases which tells me it's caused by something that's rotating.
Would U-Joints or CV Joint or hub bearing make a sound like that?
look at the heat shield for the exhaust....sometimes it can fall down on the driveshaft
Well I'll be damned! I took another look under the front end of my truck the other day & found the heat shield for the catalytic converter to be very close to the front drive shaft. So I simply bent it away with a small pry bar & the sound is gone! I find it hard to believe that would cause the type & location of the sound I was hearing though. But it stopped happening & I'm as happy as a pig in sh**.
