Clanking Sound
Clanking Sound
1990 F150 xlt 2wd e4od 351w
Hello All,
My truck is making a clanking sound that seems to be coming from the front wheels. It clicks faster if I'm driving faster and clicks slower if I'm driving slower, and it makes no sound at all if the truck is not moving. There is no play in the u-joints, but there is some play for the drive shaft to move forward and backward, and it makes a similar clanking sound, which comes from the transmission if I move the drive shaft forward and back by hand. There is also a lot of movement (left, right, up, down) at the center bearing, but the rubber piece is still there.
The sound completely goes away when I steer or brake.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Fixed it.
Turned out to be the front wheel bearings. Replaced the inner and outer bearings on both wheels.
