For the 2nd time in 8 months I have lost my only chipped key capable of starting my 2011 super crew. I now have 2 keys with chips capable of opening doors and turning ignition on but cannot start the truck because they were programmed to my other BCM which was replaced a year ago. I am well aware of the whole deal about having it towed to dealership for key replacement and reprogramming for $600 +. Thankfully unlike last time where I just forked over cash to get me back on the road as this is my personal company truck I use for service calls, I just purchased a 2017 ecoboost 7 days prior to losing my key so I have backup and don’t feel so rushed. I personally hate the fact that most makers these days make the decision for you that you will have security in your vehicle rather you like it or not simply because in these situations you’re stuck regardless of the fact you may have other keys capable of unlocking doors and ignition. Anyway, I’m looking for something to eliminate this current and possibly future problems by simply disabling my PATS altogether. I’ve read in here that someone offers it but cannot find the thread. Thanks in advance for any help, Matt
I’m in my 13th year of self employment after starting my business 2 months before finishing school. I held 2 jobs for 12 years building this from nothing to where it is now and I’ll be ready to hire help this coming spring. Being a one man operation staying committed to getting to my customers same day can be extremely exhausting and there have been many days over the years I got zero sleep. 3 days prior to me losing my key I was on my way to my first of 6 scheduled service calls when something nearly came through my windshield as I’m traveling 60mph down the highway covering me in glass and embedding glass in my hand that was on the steering wheel. Although risking ticket from the badly damaged windshield I finished my calls getting all my customers their heat back on. I return home and scramble to transfer tools and parts from the now downed f150 to the one I just bought. Combine this with exhaustion and limited time to prepare for the upcoming bombardment of new calls I’ll be the first to tell you that losing or misplacing something such as keys is much easier than you may think. So I’ll say this, unless you have something constructive to add to my current situation that may help then why bother wasting my time with the smart**s comments? Of course the obvious is to not lose the key, but I didn’t ask for help not losing my keys so your dumb**s comment is completely irrelevant. I simply joined this sight looking for a way to resolve my current issue not to waste more time explaining to someone that has no idea of the full situation and has nothing better to do than be a jack**s. So, to those of you that may have some useful information to provide I’m still open to ideas. I understand people are very cautious on this topic knowing people are looking for PATS bypass options to steal vehicles. I say this, if you know of somewhere I can send or take my PCM or whatever they may need to program it deleting PATS, I’m fine with that too. I work hard and hate thieves so that is nothing I’m interested in even slightly. Thank you in advance to those that truly offer help, Matt
I would assume that someone with the proper knowledge of ForScan could disable PATS, seeing as how none of the conservation department and forestry service trucks have PATS. Should just be getting the proper settings in the correct modules and verifying compatibility between modules. I have seen similar done with TPMS by programming them with the specs of Canada and Mexico vehicles that do not require TPMS.
You might check on some of the ForScan groups for information on how to do it.
This doesn't help your exact situation, but if you do find your working chipped key, I've read stories, where others have taped the head of the chipped key inside the column near the pickup. Then a standard, non chipped key can be used to start the vehicle.
good luck and good for you servicing your customers.
