Howdy folks--I could use some expert advice. I'm good with woodworking, but not so much with mechanics. But, being newly retired with more time than money I'm trying to do a bit more "fix it myself". My truck is a 2002 F250 with 7.3 turbo diesel and is a great, strong old truck. My issue is brakes. Pads and rotors good, but pedal will go to the floor. If this was an old 50's model truck like I used to have it would surely be a "bleed the brakes" and fix. The issue is I'm not losing any brake fluid and I can find no leak anywhere (including around the ABS unit). You can pump the brakes and kinda make do for a bit and then you are pumping again. My hope is you can direct me toward some things to try to identify the issue in a bit more efficient manner than just start buying components and hoping for the best (which is unfortunately the method used by the last couple of local mechanics I've used).
Code does show the long and typical list that begins with ABS relay and then lists more expensive possibilities (including new ABS pump, etc.). I greatly appreciate any suggestions anyone might make before I start trial/error methods.
How is the steering on your truck? The hydroboost system is part of the steering pump and can cause the brake pedal to go to the floor. As mentioned above, the master cylinder can be the cause.
