Hello,
I have seen some guys post and saw some pics on facebook where guys removed front end in one piece.
If anyone here has a write up or some pics of where all the bolts are that need to be removed to do that could you point me in that direction?
Seen this? Yea this stuff is not on face book is it... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post14696880
Let me reiterate...sharpie mark around the hinges where they bolt to the hood (to help with re-installation) and REMOVE THE HOOD! Makes for a way lighter front clip. Yes my ol red mud truck has the hood flipped back on the roof...I took it off by hand, by myself, besides its a mud truck. Well it was....bottom pic is it now days. It's getting there.
I second Rich by saying take the roof off, makes it a lot easier.
My process:
Start my draining coolant and radiator unless you want to take the radiator off the core support and leave it with the engine, Disconnect upper and lower hoses, remove battery, label and disconnect all wiring coming from center cab to engine, disconnect wiper resivoir, remove engine ground (if not grounded to chassis)
1. Mark hinge locations on hood and remove hood.
2. Mark location of inner fender mounting brackets on cab. Remove 3x bolts per side.
3. Detach rubber straps attaching inner fenders to firewall (in wheel well if you still have them)
4. Unscrew lower fender bolts attaching fenders to rocker panel (collect any shims that fall out and keep)
5. ATTEMPT to use every extension you have to loosen radiator core support mount bolts
6. Get frustrated and use sawzall to cut radiator core support mount bolts.
7. Find friends or engine hoist to lift off front end.
8. Sit on a bucket and marvel at the days accomplishment while drinking a beer.
9order new core support bolts and bushings.
I would of left the brackets on the ends of the inner fender wells and sharpie marked around the fire wall and removed them there. None the less, its off in one piece. Now is a great time to get in there and do what ever you need to do that warranted the removal of the front clip, and then detail the motor and the inner fenderwells. Nice looking truck.
In the body shop we would drill 1/8" holes through panels/hinges where they mount before we remove anything. Just use an 1/8" punch to line the holes up when reinstalling them and they come out almost perfect every time.
