'97 F-250 7.3 stuck ignition key

Sometimes I can't get the key out of the ignition. I haven't taken anything apart except for removing covers around the shifter and ignition switch. I pulled the tumbler, and that appears to be ok. When putting the shifter in park, sometimes the key isn't released. Seems to be a lubrication problem in the linkage. Pushing the shift lever towards the hood while in park, sometimes releases the key with a thunk. Key shuts off the engine and power, but doesn't fully move to the off position and I can't turn the key to accessory position. I can turn the key back to on and start. Once released the key can turn to any position. Before I take things apart, I thought I'd see what others have found.

Sounds like the mechanical key-removal interlock is getting worn out.

Saw a U-tube video about taking the hub apart. Looks like about a day job, a real PIA. Since I don't know what's bad I'd have to take it apart once to id bad parts and later again to put in the new parts. So I may let a garage do it. Linkage seems to have gone back to working for now.
