Fault Code P1443
Check engine light came on, Checked the code and got P1443 -Evaporative purge flow sensor fault. Now what? I can find any remove and replace information on any of the items. (Purge flow PF sensor, Purge solenoid, Vapor management valve VMV) Can you guys help? Is this something I can do myself or do I need to pay the shop $$$$$$$ to do it?
First check to see if there are any leaks on the line between the evap canister and the engine. If your's is a 2.3 liter as well then the canister will be just under the battery. From the canister there will be 2 lines coming out. One goes to the gas tank. The other goes through a special hose (special because it's wider in diamater on the canister side and smaller on the other) to the control valve. The vlave has a 2 wire power connector. Then there's another hose that goes to the sensor (with a 3 wire connector) and from it there's another hose to the engine.
Sensor goes for around $50 at ford.
Valve is about $27.
Special hose is $19.
The whole set (I think it's the valve, sensor and 3 hoses) is around $90.
So, First check if it's the hoses (my special hose was a bit cracked but not leaking. I replaced it anyway). Then check the valve. Connect it to an external 12v power. If it opens then it's ok and it's probably the sensor. The sensor should change resistance when there is air flow through it. If you need to know the values let me know. I have the chilton manual but I'm lazy to check at the moment.
If I had to put my money I'd say it's the sensor. They are known to go bad.
Hope this helps.
