Most OEM filters from factory are gorilla tight 99.9% of the time. After the first removal and new filter installed - no issue. I used to use channel locks until I found this:
Better fit and grip around the filter. Many brands available to fit any budget.
Yeah, but why have it be different? On a $4 filter? Doesn’t make any sense.
Black only label vs three color for the store Motorcrafts, might be a difference of 5 cents per filter. That's 5 cents every minute across every assembly plant. These are the corners that the bean counters look at, on every part on the vehicle.

+1. I bought and use this $11 version. Makes filter removal very easy
Was getting a long crank on every cold start first thing in the morning, rest of the day it was fine. Was told the engine will not start until there is enough oil pressure for the phasers to work. I was told to hold the throttle down when I turn the key to let the engine crank but not start so it would build oil pressure. Then let off the throttle and start like normal, if it fired right up the long crank could be due to a couple things.
1. Bad ADBV causing the oil to bleed back down
2. Normal function so the computer can check the location of the cam and or build pressure.
I replaced the filter and I don't get the long cranks every cold start like before. I still get them once in awhile which I guess is normal.
Not sure what you mean by 'non-branded'. It is clearly marked FoMoCo Ford Motor Company. Filters bought for the factory don't get fancy three color labels.
I was told the factory uses filters made by Champion which are different than the consumer line of filters made by Purolator.
1300 miles, 3 months old. Had to use channel locks to crush and remove the factory oil filter. Petty gripe, but certainly invites doubts elsewhere.
Same thing happened to me today when I changed my oil, broke out the channel locks. One key piece of information though is that I have done all of my oil changes. I really didn’t think I had hand tightened it to much but apparently I was wrong.
