Two oil changes on the truck and both have been when the truck told me to. The first was at 4,000 miles and the next one is at 6,913? That's a whopping 2,913 miles since the first change. Is anyone else having to change oil this frequently?

Mostly driving short trips in town and out on the freeway occasionally. There was also one towing trip to Moab in March which is good solid work for the truck. I'm about to take a 5,000 mile trip starting next week and thinking I need to take oil with me. And yes, Mobil 1 5W40.

I suspect the many short trips are giving the OLM fits! It'll be interesting to see how the 5K trip affects your truck's oil life calculation.

It has to be something but this is way different from the 2011 even though the driving patterns are identical. Clearly the OLM judges oil life based on very different criteria than what I had before. Ford has classified me as one of their most severe duty drivers. Not sure what to think about that.
Seems way2 early. Are the sensors not liking the synth oil maybe?
I'd like to know what (if any) sensors are checking the oil. As I understand it there is no actually sampling going on, it's all just a complex algorithm of time towing, idling, ambient and driving temperatures, etc, etc. I'm either way off on the margin or there is something wrong.
I'm at 9200 miles and the truck has not yet prompted me to change the oil. I do not let the truck sit at idle much and its mostly freeway commuting to work and back about 50 miles a day plus 2 desert trips pulling +/- 12.5k toy hauler
My change oil light never came on but I did the first oil change at 2000 miles before a 4000 mile trip in March. The 4000 mile trip was towing 90 - 95% of the time. I'm now at 9500 miles ( 7500 on current oil ) and have not seen an change oil warning yet.
