hey people i had ford change the oil in my truck a couple weeks ago then took a trip to canada and put about 2800 miles on the truck. now i need to go to colorado next week, so my question is this: do I need to change the oil again?? I live in central ks so it would be an eight-hour drive or so one way. any help is appreciated. This forum rocks!

IMO, you'll be fine, it's only one oil change, and you're running ford oil and filter. Don't worry about it . Extended service interval is either 5K or 7500 miles, can't remember.

Go ahead and change the oil yourself. Filter <$3 at wallyworld. Oil <$20. Peace of mind for a long run = Priceless. I change my oil every 3k miles. I know what the manual says. I still change every 3k. Motorcraft 5/20 oil & filter.

5000-6000 mile change intervals are totally reasonable for a tight engine, using semi-syn Motorcraft oil and Motorcraft filters.

I have a lifetime habit of 3000 mile changes, but it's become clear to me that you can go far longer with today's engines and not risk any additional wear or problems. I've moved to 5000-6000 mile intervals on my own vehicles, except for my old toy BMW which gets a change once a year (only 2-3k miles per year on that car).

Freeway driving like you're doing is extremely easy on oil--no cold starts, idling, condensation will be cooked off completely, etc.

Have a good trip,
George

If you travel so much I would recommend dropping in some synthetic extended performance. I use Mobil1 Ext. Perf. that gives you 15k per change...I change every 10k though just to be safe.

I don't travel as nearly as much as you do but I average 29-35k a year....I've been running Mobil1 EXPERF. for 100k no problems!

I do oil in the truck every 3K also, 2K in my T-Bird (doesn't get driven alot so I get it changed more often). My old truck has 150K on it and still runs strong and doesn't use any oil. Planning on doing the same with the 07 I picked up last week. In fact, drove it back 2K miles, first thing I had done was get the oil changed. If you do extended trips, I think it's worth changing regardless of what the current mileage is. My 2 cents
