clutch help please ...
Finally got around to swapping out the engine in my old truck (found a decent used one at a wreck) ....
1986, F150, 4x4, straight 6 ... stock engine, I use it for everything including plowing snow (even use the plow in the summer for pushing dirt back into ditches)
So, I went on the RockAuto site (easiest place for me to get one ... I am in rural VT).
I know I need the 10"
There is a few available ... from $60 to to $200 ... all are kits (disc, pressure plate, bearings, ...)
Since this might be the last clutch I put in the vehicle, a few dollars will not make a difference ...
M-pact ... $53.99
Perfect Clutch .... $60.79
Luk ... $68.79
AMS .... $74.89
Valeo ... $85.79
Platinum Driveline ... $92.79
M-pact ... $112.79 .... I don't even know what this is, looks like it has two plates ... %20 increase in cap ???
AMS .... $92.79 ..... says "performance plus, kevlar disc" and is listed under "heavy duty / Towing" .... "increased clamp load ... stock to mild upgrade (25 hp or less) ... %20 increased capacity"
Sacks f.... $86.79
Today I sent out a few e-mails looking for advice.
One thing that came back ... and now I am looking for more opinions ... do I want to upgrade to an 11"?
I will check tomorrow but the AMS tech support suggested using an 11". He said the flywheel is most likely drilled for both clutches and that even using an 11 inch clutch (used on trucks over 8250 lbs) would be an improvement.
They said this would be good as I use the truck for plowing.
Any thoughts?
Mike
