Sorry guys, I did a search and turned up nothing on this topic even though I know I have seen it posted. (I am tired and sore and need to sleep so I can do it again) ANYWAY, my clutch is only 3 years old and it appears that it is quitting on me again. I have a '93 F150 4x4 with a hydraulic clutch (don't know the transmission type) the I6 and 3.55 gears. How can I make this setup stronger? I have read a post in the past that said a larger flywheel and disc can be installed in the same bellhousing without modification. DETAILS PLEASE! I tow heavy loads regularly, but I am very easy on the clutch. I have made some upgrades resulting in extra power and I need a stronger drivetrain. Please help! I love this truck but the clutch and transmission have always seemed a little on the sickly side. Sorry, I get tired and I ramble on..... Please suggest brands of replacement parts also. All upgrades please. I'll go back to making steel, you guys figure this one out while I am gone. Thank you for the assistance.
You can use your stock flywheel, it is drilled for both the 10" and 11" clutches. Although, if it has been resurfaced more than two or three times, I would get a new one. A Centerforce II clutch is a good upgrade, without excessive pedal effort, and excellent holding power. I wouldn't go with the dual friction unless you really enjoy spinning tires.
Luk makes a heavy duty kit they call their Pro Gold clutch. These were designed for extreme conditions (4 wheelin, towing) where the clutch will build alot of heat. The pedal pressure will not be any stiffer than stock. The Pro Gold kit does upgrade your clutch to an 11" clutch. I deal with several large fleets that will use nothing but the Pro gold clutch. Let me know if you have any additional questions.
