My dad is selling me his ‘89 F350. A couple weeks ago, he went to drive it around town for a few minutes (doesn’t get driven much), and about five minutes out it died. It started again, but was bucking and would barely run. He got some gas, thinking it was low and maybe sucked some crap up from the bottom of the tank, but it still did the same thing.
Long story short, the pump was running, but I was thinking it may have been the same thing, so I dropped the tank and pulled the pump. The tank was actually pretty clean, and the sock was pretty clean as well. However, one of the wires was barely hanging onto the inside of the pump.
So my question is, is there any way to repair the wire that came off? I’m not sure if soldering will work or if the fuel will eat that away. Just curious if I can get away with fixing the almost new pump (has maybe 200 miles on it since 2010).
Of course you can solder it. But my year 97 has a sensor in the differential and when that wire broke it bucked and kicked something fierce. Check all your vacuums carefully.
