my truck wouldnt start the other day because all of the sudden the fuel pump wouldnt pump any fuel. no hum coming from back there, so i bought a pump, and right when i started to drop the tank the pump started to work again! so i said screw it, put everything back togather and returned the fuel pump. now the problem is back 3 days later... i think it might be a bad ground wire because of the intermitten connection.. but i have know idea what i am looking at.. what should i do?
Replace the pump. sometimes messing with it or jaring it will cause it to kick in. My front pump went out a few months after I installed new tanks "with over half a tank of gas of course!!". So I reached up between the frame and bed and smacked it a few times and it kicked in. Immediately drove it till empty switched to rear tank to get home and took it out and replaced the pump.
Make sure you are getting consistent power to the pump(s) before you start dropping any tanks. You could have a bad relay, fuse link, dash tank selector switch or wiring problem.

That was for a 1991, it should be the same or very similar to your 1990.
Well I finished dropping the tank last night and on my lunch break im gonna test the pump on a battery and hopefully it will not run so I can have this problem resolved.
