I'm hoping for some help on a old '92 Hyundai Elantra. I installed a new in tank fuel pump and new filter 2 mo. ago and it ran fine then. Went to start in yesterday after setting in the winter for two mo. and no fuel pressure. The tank is full of fuel. I've a guage hooked to the fuel filter. Also Hyundai has somekind of bypass test wire to the pump and I used that and still no luck also ran a long patch cord right from the batt. to the wire coming out of the tank and still no luck.
I'm wondering if the terminals corroded. Is there anykind of jelly for corrosion on the pump term. or possibly solder to the pump short jumper wires to come up out of the tank. I'm hoping the new pump is okay as they cost a little over $200. This seems to be pretty good messege board with helpful people. Thanks for anykind of help. bjr23
I was able to apply constant 12v to the wire going to the tank and got under the car and kept smacking the bottom of the tank and the shaking finally got the pump running again. Apparently it was just stuck. A local shop suggested this and it worked. bjr23
Volvo and MB pumps will "stick" like this from time to time if they have been setting idle for a few days. A couple of sharp raps with a wooden mallet will often free them up...but they are external. If you can, if might be a good idea to replace the pump screen/filter.
