4R70W shifting problems
1997 F150 4.6L 4WD - about 271K miles
I was driving along the interstate about 70mph when my transmission quit working. I shifted into N and then back into D and it worked for a few seconds and then quit again. I pulled over and made a few calls, then tried the 4WD shifter. I put it into 4WD high, then back into 2WD and it seems to fix the problem. I turned around and headed for a safer place to park, and when it tried to shift from 1st into 2nd, I felt a clunk and heard a bunch of bad noises. So I ended up towing it back to my garage. I have a friend who says he has a tranny that will fit it and I downloaded a bunch of YT videos on how to remove/install the 4R70W so now I'm wondering what my next step is. I haven't tried driving it w/o the overdrive yet.
