Chrome Trim Clip

Had my 1986 F150 painted recently. The paint shop removed and reinstalled the chrome trim as part of the process. Some of the plastic clips broke and I am trying to replace the passenger's side lower door front trim clip which was broken (see photos). Seems I must remove the inner fender wheel liner to install the little retaining sleeve on the back of the clip which looks like it requires removal of the right front wheel and numerous screws / plastic fasteners that hold the liner to accomplish. Reluctant to remove the wheel liner as I may break more plastic parts. Any way to install the chrome trim retainer clip sleeve without removing the wheel liner? Thank you.

That liner is not like the plastic molding clips and will not break or crack but I cant remember if you can or cannot get to it that way.
I will have to check a fender I have off the truck to see but cant get out to check till weekend.

Also some of the moldings use nuts and that may be one of them and again I would need to check on that to as my parts truck had moldings I took off because I may get a truck that needs them.

Do you have the PN for the retainers I think from section R?

Section R is the clip section for 1973/79. There's no retainer for this moulding, all that's listed is AR which is the two clips.

But the problem is, for 1980/89, there's no pic of the clips. There was in 1973/79, but not later. So I have no clue what this clip looks like.

All there is...is part numbers.

Darn it! We like pictures LOL

Could you post up the PN's for the letters of the clips in this post as it may help others if they search out this information.

Thanks for your help

If someone asks for specific clips, then I'll do it, but not otherwise. There's just too damn many clips to list...and this is just one pic.

There are more pics of the other types of clips.

Ok Tgun I got pictures of that molding with the clips

As you can see 1 on the left is threaded the 1 on the right is mostly smooth and would say it fits into a clip that is in the panel.
I can not remember what that clip is like as I pulled the moldings off almost 4 years ago.
And because of that I cant remember how I removed them? Fender on or off the truck?

I haven't pulled my fenders out of the pile far enough to check, but looking at it, it doesn't look like one method is easier than the other. I'm just washing bolts at the moment, will try and dig one out and get photos.

The peice of Trim thats shown on an angle is secured by a nut . To access it you need to remove the plastic kick panel on the inside of the truck. Its a horrible job.Once you do that you have to squeeze your hand in the opening and get either a spanner or tiny ratchet with either an 8 or 10 mm ,cant quite recall.straighten the trim and bobs your aunty......well in this day and age bob might be your aunty.

Have fun

My fender is off the truck, but this is the style of trim I have and where that nut is on the backside in relation to the rubber inner fender.

Comparing that to the cab, there is no access from the inside. Not sure, but you might be able to pull back the cab side of the inner fender and squeeze a baby sized three jointed hand in there. Looks like pulling the fender would be the easiest way. Which is what I'd do and leave the inner fender attached, those trim screws get rusted in place. But the lower bolt attaching it to the cab is just as bad, pretty sure I broke one or two between both of my trucks.

*EDIT*
Also, might be able to just do it by going in from the door/fender seam, looks like you would have to remove the door. If it's just manageable to squeeze in there, I would go that route. But I don't have a single fender mounted on the truck right now to be able to eyeball that. Worth looking into.

I have 2 fender off the truck with inner liners but no moldings and till I looked closer at yours I had the wrong hole for the nut.
I also have 2 on my truck also with out moldings but could look at tomorrow to see how one could got to it.
