removing trim safely

Does any know how to remove trim from an 84 F 150?

mine has the upper chrome trim that I want to keep, and Im thinking about repainting it. so I would ideally like to remove the trim to paint properly. any one know how to do it with out bending or breaking the chrome trim?

I took off the broken ones on my truck and it seems as easy as prying it off (carefully of course) and they pop off the clips, but on my fenders there is one clip with a wire hook on each fender, and it looks like that doesn't want to let it go as easily. How do i remove the trim with out breaking the clips?

any tips and tricks would be super helpful!!

thanks!

The body side mouldings are anodized aluminum, not chrome. The only exterior chrome on these trucks are the bumpers.

Is the anodized aluminum easier or harder to remove that the chrome?

See if this helps. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...m-w-clips.html
They have special tools as well, these are from HF https://www.harborfreight.com/5-piec...set-67021.html

I was reading a thread, can't find it now, nor remember what forum it was on. One guy used a thin putty knife an 1" -1 1/2" with the edge bent in a 90* with duct tape wrapped on it to protect the paint. Think he started at one end on the bottom and gently pried until it popped loose then worked down the trim.

On any trim you always look for clips that have a nut on the back side.
That clip with the wire has a nut you need to undo before the trim can be removed.
