glow plugs?

04 f350 6.0.
at about 9 o'clock in the morning maybe mid 70's outside my truck wouldn't start on first try, i waited a few seconds and tried again and it started. i let it warm up about 5 min and drove it where i needed to go without any problems. before i left to come home i scanned for codes and got 8 codes, none of the code triggered a light (which works fine during the self test btw), the first two are telling me to clean my egr valve i think P0407, P0488, the last one is an info code telling me not to clear the codes because the computer is capable of doing it on its own.

the other five are the ones in question, P0672, P0673, P0675, P0676, P0678. this would mean that i lost five? glow plugs at once??? or a harness? or control module? i could use some direction, any body got some good pointers where to start or maybe a check list to go over or things to look at first. just cant imagine five BANG at the same time, or am i wrong?

thanks in advance for any help.

Do a search for diesel tech Ron, and glow plug diagnostics. Nice simple tests using a voltmeter.

Test the glow plugs first, but that many codes at once is often times the GPCM.

i figured so many at once would point to something other than the plugs themselves just wasn't sure whether to look at the glow plug harness, engine harness or gpcm or something else.

these are the exact replies i was hoping for, thanks a bunch to ya both.
will update when there is news!

If you discover it is the glow plug module, get one from Ford. Don’t buy aftermarket it will give you headaches till you replace it with OEM.
I found a used one on eBay for $35.

So I have tested the plugs at the harness connection on top of the motor and I'm getting open circut on at least 3 of them could still be 5 that are acting up tho the truck has 143xxx on it and I have no idea how old these GP's are so I'm thinking a full set and wire harness on my next pay check.

I was wondering about this, I know there are some things you can go after market on and some things that aren't worth it, what about the plugs and harness is OE best or is there a better aftermarket option, I.E. same quality for less money or same price for better quality?

Glow plugs are pretty cheap. $10 each??? Get the OEM. We had 4 glow plug codes replaced them and still had 1 code remaining. Installed the used GPCM and it went away.
I usually try to use OEM parts, especially electrical. But we wrecked the harness and the Ford dealer closed for the day. Called around and Oreilly had a harness. I thought they can’t mess up a harness. Bought it came home and when we tried to plug it in the prongs were just a touch too short and it barely made contact. Had more glow plug codes than before we started.
Waited till Monday, got an OEM harness and everything worked fine. Could have chopped and spliced harness parts together but that would look awful.

And make sure you get the correct LENGTH glowplugs because the 04 engines had short OR long glowplugs depending on the production date.
