is it possible for the glow plugs or module to be failing without showing any codes on my scan gauge II? are one of these two likely the culprit based on my list above?
Glow plugs have there own module, each time you go to start it will self test the glow plugs. If it fails it will leave the glow plug light on, it passes it turns it off.
Glow plugs may or may not leave a code or message on the communications center of a newer 6.0
You may have other issues. Low ICP, bad fuel, no sync. ficm problems etc.
On my '05 I had two bad glow plugs, with no codes on my scan gauge 2 or my slightly better OBD2 scanner. Also no CEL, and glow plug light acted normal. Just sayin'...

Edit: And it wouldn't start at 30°, after replacement, it started fine at 20°... Haven't had a chance to test it at colder temps yet...

I could very well Be Wrong about the CEL and Glow Plug Problems
Maybe the CEL only triggers for Certain Type GP Failures IDK enough to say for shure or maybe it has to fail so many times in a certain amount of Drive Cycles???
I am 98% shure LOL that Glow Plugs are considered an Emisions Component
Had to give myself a 2% error margine LOL
I dont mind being wrong and very well could be since 2 of you Had Glow Plug Problems and NO CEL
Are you saying the FICM is good because it's farily new or are you watching the voltages at KOEO, cranking and KOER?
Josh
main voltage is always 48+ regardless of pre-startup, KOEO, cranking, or running... i haven't programmed any of the other voltage parameters for the FICM.
alot of unburnt fuel came out the tailpipe between cranks, and when it finally did start it had a single, healthy little black puff. only took a couple seconds to smooth out and idle nicely.
like i said, no CEL or codes on the SGII.. is Autozone's diagnostic computer any more intuitive or would that require a dealer-caliber piece of equipment? i would be curious to hear if anyone can confirm either way the glow plug / CEL discussion above.

I know that the SGII won't read or clear some errors.
One that I found is fuel level sender faults. The information center says
there is an error (data error I think)but the SGII would not show or clear it.
I ended up getting my Snap-On tool out to clear it.
I'm pretty sure I have a glow plug issue on my '03. Smokes white with fuel until it warms up, but still runs great. I don't have any codes showing up, and I scanned with an AutoEnginuity with the Ford bundle.
