Adding 360 Camera

Just picked up my new 250, and the wife found out about the 360 view system. She REALLY wants it. I know I can add an aftermarket camera, but I'd rather use the OEM system. I haven't seen any other threads discussing OEM options, does anyone have any concrete info on what it takes to add it? Obviously I'd need the camera, and a new nav bezel at least.

It's a total of 5 cameras, I dont think its something that can be done at a cost that isnt crazy. The 360 camera option is one of the options that needs to be decided on when shopping for the truck. It was a must have in my case, knowing it couldn't be added later, so the $710 msrp was worth it.

I think a little more info might be in order. What do you have right now? As ForCal said, the 360 degree camera "system", consists of 5 cameras, plus the customer placed camera for the trailer, if you get that add-on. But you mention "...I can add an aftermarket camera...". This makes me wonder what exactly you have and what you expect you can get. Also as ForCal said, if you tried to add the OEM 360 camera system, it would be way more money that I think you would be willing to spend.

I picked up a 250 Lariat Sport/Ultimate on Saturday. I've only got a tailgate camera. What she says she wants is the forward facing camera. There are other threads talking about aftermarket options for that. I took it a step further to the 360 question. I could probably spend a thousand or so to do it. What I don't want is an aftermarket interface. No extra screen tucked away, etc. I wouldn't do it at all if that were my only option.

For the true 360 you also need the two cameras mounted on the bottom of the mirrors on each of the front doors, those could be had with new mirrors I would assume (it's fun to open a door when in the 360 and see the image move). Also, the front grille camera would just come in a new grille. The magic will be making them all work in the Sync 3 system. The other front camera behind the rear view mirror against the windshield is for lane keeping alerts and auto high beams...nothing to do with the 360 top-down (like the CHMSL). Good luck!

Just search 360 camera. There are several threads on the topic but I don't recall anybody being able to add the complete system. It's just far too complicated and cost prohibitive. Even the dealers refused to do it. Your best bet is adding an aftermarket front camera with an interface to your Sync 3.

Are cameras already there?

I just picked up my Platinum and it has everything but the 360 . However when I looked around at it there seems to be a camera in the front windshield and ones in the mirrors, and it already has the box and tail gate ones? Is it just a download Of software then? And what are those cameras looking lenses in the overhead console? Yah, I haven’t had time to look in the manual yet! Thanks

Do you have a camera in the grill below the Ford emblem?

Those are not camera lenses in the overhead console, those are motion sensors so if your truck is locked with the alarm set and the windows are down, if someone or something reaches into the vehicle or if a bug flies into your vehicle, the alarm will go off.

The cameras would only be there if the 360 camera option was also there. You would have 5 total, front emblem, each side mirror(bottom and close to body), CHMSL and tailgate. There would also be a button above the sync screen.

That is great to know thanks! I will have to check for that camera under the emblem when I get back from Florence. That big long box wouldn’t even go down the street here! 😜
That is really good info on those sensors too, they looked like little spy nozzles! 👀! Hahahahahah. Thanks again for the great info!

Thanks for this, I have a button above the screen too, but right now it operates the camera on the cab light only. Do you have two buttons or just one?

Also if you have the camera in the Ford emblem on the grille, there's a dime sized cutout next to it, that's a spray nozzle that pops out when you wash the windshield and sprays the front camera. If you have the front camera view on, and hit the washer you'll see it on the screen...little R2D2 lookin arm pops out...pretty awesome. Our son lost his mind when he saw it the first time...he was 8 or 9 at the time, good memory there. He gave me an autobot (Transformers) front plate for Father's Day after that...the power boards are cool enough, but the robot cleaning the front camera locked it up, was his position...the trucks a transformer. LOL
