highboy springs

I read in a different forum that 73 - 77 F250 front springs are interchangeable
with 77 - 79 front 2 leaf springs.
Has anyone done this on their truck?
I have a 78 F250 4X4 and would like to raise the front this seams like it would be cheapest and easiest.
Thanks hotfalcoon

I have.

don't have the thread handy but you can search for my name and find it.

Be advised I woudl really only consider them as leveling springs and nothing more.

I did it also way back in the 90's. It will just level the truck as Something Clever said.

73-77 HB front leaf springs will bolt on to 78/79 hangers, the springs are both the same width. Are you buying new HB springs or getting used? USED is a BAD idea IMO. I bought a 79 with some (PO installed) worn out HB springs on the front end. After the PO smacked the front axle pumpkin on the swapped in 460 (that he left a front sump) oil pan....he added blocks. FAIL. Those worn out HB leafs are in the scrap bin. I put a Rough Country 4" on and clear 35's ok.

What size tires you want to run? You might get away with a cheap, but not the best idea, in some peoples opinion's, add-a leaf for 1.5" of lift. That will get some 33's out of the front fenders better. You might just need a 2" or a 4" all based off tire size.. Remember to factor in with a 4" or 6" lift kit, the need for longer front brake lines, a drop pitman arm and an adjustable steering link for the front. And then the back end has to be handled.

Thanks for all the info.
I already have a used set of HB springs looking to run 33’s
Thought I would use the HB springs to see if I liked the height or if I need to go taller.

Well since you already have them, it is just a lot of work for the possibility to find out that they are worn out. Are they 6 leafs? They might look nice and curved now, wait until the weight of the truck comes on as the jack goes down. Make sure you have your fine thread u bolts clean clean clean. And you still might have to cut them off. Having a new set on hand, sure makes it nice. Also are you going to replace the used HB leaf spring bushings with some Energy Suspension ones? Here is how ol blue was with its USED HB leafs...and blocks. Blockhead PO. Last pic is right after the Rough Country's were hung.

I used superduty springs on my 79 f250 and can clear a 35" tire. Details are in my build thread if you're interested.

Flattened out...almost like re-curved the wrong direction. When I took them off they even sort of went back sort of curved. I got a deal on the Rough Country lift and am regretting it now. I have a measurable difference between the two sides when it came right off the jack stands. Cheap and easy is not always the best route.

Like an add-a leaf as a cheap and easy option. https://skyjacker.com/shop/category/add-a-leaf/
For a 4" Skyjacker https://skyjacker.com/shop/category/...sion-lift-kit/
You will need longer front/rear brake lines. https://skyjacker.com/shop/category/brake-line/
Drop pitman arm https://skyjacker.com/shop/category/pitman-arm/
Adjustable steering link/Drag link https://skyjacker.com/shop/drag-link/sdl250/ shop around Summit orJegs for cheaper, maybe even Amazon?
Shocks of course.

Atlas Suspension has an option to DELETE the rear block all together. 1973-1979 F250//F350 4x4 Atlas SuspensionAtlas Spring Company
All others want you to just stack blocks back there.

I had 5 min...no problem. Of course those are just get you in the ball part links.

There are more than one company that offers lifts for a 79 Lowboy.....Superlift, Jack-it has the whole kit
https://www.jackit.com/lift-kits/sus...d-f250-1341577
SDtruck springs https://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index...roducts_id=325,

Fat Bobs garage has an 10% off coupon on a Rough Country 4" https://4x4.fatbobsgarage.com/ford-f...979-p7994.aspx
NTW is like Rocky Mountain that have options.
DO NOT BUY USED, like installed and used... unless it is used but NEW.
Summit Racing and Jegs and even Speedway might have a better deal on the smaller items needed.
