The newer aftermarket units will even have wireless Android Auto. Super handy for short trips, but would kill your battery quick on any trip over a short hop.
Very true.
Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay shouldn’t be offered in a vehicle if said vehicle is not equipped with wireless charging and for the aftermarket car audio dealers, they should insist on some type of wireless charging to be installed as well.
At the same time and with the screen on, hold down the center of the power button and track forward button.
When the screen goes blank, release them and the system will reboot.
Make sure your vehicle is either running or in the accessory mode when doing this.
Don't have an accessory mode. Push start button once for accessory I guess.
Well this just sucks big time. Did the soft reboot and now NO Android Auto in the truck!
You are correct.
Push the button once without foot on the brake pedal and it’s in accessory mode. .
Okay, don’t get frustrated just yet because there are other things to try.
First, have you tried deleting Android Auto from your phone and reinstalling it or just powering your phone down so it’ll reset itself?
How about unplugging from the USB port in the truck, plugging it back in or trying the other USB port.
You can also try the master reset on the SYNC screen.
Just hit settings, system update, scroll down, and hit master reset.
This has happened to me before but I’m using Apple CarPlay.
For reasons I can’t explain, sometimes Apple CarPlay will not come up when I plug my iPhone in so I’ll try a soft reboot, a master reset, and I’ll also just power down my phone so it’ll reboot and then it eventually comes up on my SYNC screen. One of these three things will usually work for me.
I hope this will work for you and it’s not your APIM but don’t worry about the APIM for now.

Try the other ways I mentioned first.
Ok! I will try everything you have listed. I did try both USB ports and did not make any difference. I will power down the phone and restart it right now. I did delete and re-install the Android Auto app on the phone already. I sure do appreciate all your responses. Driving from Iowa to Dayton Ohio tomorrow for youngest daughter's birthday and I was wanting the Google Maps to show on the screen instead of just the Ford navigation as it would have real time situations. But getting tired and need to rest. We will see if the phone restart does any good. Thanks again

I had some issues when I first set up Android Auto. It ended up being the cable I was using. Even with the right cable, though, setup was a bit glitchy and it took a day or two before everything behaved as it should. Once I got it set up, it's been stable.

Good point on the cable. I've had issues with some of the cheap ones working OK for charging but not for data (needed for AA).
I've found between a soft sync reboot (Holding power button and right seek button) and clearing storage and cache data from the AA app worked to resolve some early connection issues I was having.
Also, be sure the permissions on the app are set correctly - there are a bunch required for it to work without issue.
